Introduction to the Jarar Pass School (JPS) Project

The JARAR PASS School Project is an initiative aimed at enhancing community-based education in Degahbur City, within the Somali region of Ethiopia, as part of efforts to improve children’s learning in Ethiopian communities. The school is an initiative designed and managed by Eng. Kader Abdi. The JPS project will modernize a facility within the current school and create an inclusive, sustainable educational campus. Eng. Kader Abdi Café would provide educational opportunities for 1,440 students and over 300 adult learners through day and evening programs.

The Jarar Pass school project provides for essential educational needs. Education in Ethiopia emphasizes the need for improved educational quality. The debate focuses on a lack of resources, lack of qualified teachers, and lack of quality learning environment. Education in the marginalized regions of the country, especially Degahbur, has experienced low-level of learning outcomes.

The area of Degahbur is experiencing rapid population growth but its educational infrastructure has not kept pace. There are no current schools with modern classrooms, libraries, health support or digital access. The gap primarily affects:
